So one of my Australian friends is holidaying in New York City for a few weeks. and now she's experiencing a culture shock all of her own!
one of my favorite stories of her trip so far is...
it's snowing in new york city. and she starting chatting up a federal police officer outside a bank. i suppose they were talking about winter attire, and my friend starts going off with:
"back at home, all i wear are thongs. i wear thongs everywhere. day and nite, no matter the weather, all i wear are thongs"
and then it hit her:
in america: thong means underwear
in australia: it means flip-flops
looooove it!
